One of the most critical aspects of securing your website is to ensure that your web hosting service is taking your security as seriously as you are.
If not, they could be leaving you open to all sorts of threats such as unauthorized access or malware. Ignoring such things is like leaving your home with the back door wide open.
Also, the security features that your web hosting service offers you need to be easily accessed and simple to use. There's no point in having the world's best security if you cannot enable it!
Last year, the FTC conducted a review of 11 web hosting companies to check how accessible their security features were and how easy it was to enable them.
The results, shall we say, were a mixed bag. Sure, SSL support and using encrypted channels for transferring data were standard in the majority of hosting plans. However, many key technologies, such as those used to counter phishing attacks, were either absent or showed that users had difficulties during enabling.
That's an interesting read. Two-factor authentification is the most important security feature to me, I use on every website that offers it. Surprisingly, it seems that online banking often does not have it. Pretty concerning!
Goes to show that you really need to do your research when choosing a web host. Cheers!

Yeah, for sure. I always look for hardware specifics and it's quite shocking how many use RAID 0 or no RAID at all and don't take any backups either. Providers like Linode and Vultr are speculated not to use RAID.
Thanks for the heads up! So many people would get sucked in assuming it's a RAID setup.
Very informative! security is very important in business and if our business is on our website then we should ensure maximum security.
